EVANSVILLE — Usage of Evansville Regional Airport maintained growth in 2017, and the holiday season was especially busy.

Passengers boarding planes in 2017 totaled 220,046, an increase of 5 percent from 2016 and 34 percent above the 2013 total.

The airport's 2017 usage was its best in the current decade. In October, American and Allegiant airlines showed record monthly boardings in Evansville, and in December, United and Allegiant showed their best year-over-year jumps during their time at EVV.

This month's traffic at the airport might reflect a year-over-year decline, due to numerous weather related flight cancellations, according to airport officials.

A three-part, $18.9 million renovation of EVV is progressing, manager Doug Joest said during Monday's EVV board meeting.

The first phase, which involves constructing an addition to the airport's terminal for new administrative offices, is to finish by March. Parking lot renovations are underway but have been delayed by weather.

The third and largest phase, interior terminal renovations, is nearing the start of construction, Joest said.
