RICHMOND — Board members of the Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County have agreed to give the county a $1.42 million grant that would be used to help pay for the demolition of the former Reid Hospital site.

The EDC board unanimously approved the Economic Development Income Tax grant application filed last week by the Wayne County Council and county commissioners.

Monday's vote came after about a half-hour's worth of presentations by city and county officials and discussions between them and EDC board members.

Among those in attendance for the regular monthly EDC meeting were Richmond Mayor Dave Snow, City Controller Beth Fields, City Attorney A.J. Sickmann, Richmond Common Council member Ron Oler, Wayne County Council members Pete Zaleski and Jeff Plasterer, and Wayne County Commissioner Denny Burns.

Each took turns speaking to the EDC board and walking its members through the steps that have been taken so far toward bringing the former hospital down.
