ELKHART — Heartland RV announced several expansion projects that will add more than 500,000 square feet of manufacturing space by early 2018.

The new facilities, which are in response to the growing demand for Heartland's travel trailers, fifth wheels and toy haulers, will be built on campuses in Elkhart, Middlebury, and Howe, as well as its west coast operations in Nampa, Idaho, according to a press release. Details on the cost of the investments and number of new job openings were not available.

"We continue to see significant growth in the demand for Heartland's family of travel trailer and fifth wheel brands," said Heartland President Chris Hermon. "In response to this demand growth, which has stretched our existing capacity to its limits, we have embarked on a significant expansion plan that will add more than 500,000 square feet."

Heartland is a subisdiary of Thor Industries, which is based on Elkhart.
