The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 44 more deaths due to COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 15,586.

The seven-day moving average of new deaths rose from 16 to 17 per day, the health department said.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dipped from 1,746 on Sunday to 1,729 on Monday. More than 20% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients. Hospitalizations reached a recent peak of 2,687 on Sept. 13.

The department reported 1,630 new cases of COVID-19, up from 1,114 the previous day. The cumulative total of cases rose to 988,765.

More than 3.3 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Tuesday at 5 a.m., after a daily increase of 4,364. Department statistics show 60.3% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated.
