JASPER — Schnucks is opening a new Southwest Indiana store, but it differs from the large grocery marts scattered across Evansville and Newburgh.

Schnucks Fresh, at 3605 N. Newton St. in Jasper, will have a heavy focus on fresh departments such as produce, meat, seafood, deli and bakery in its leased, 18,000-square-foot space.

The store opens at 7 a.m. Aug. 18. Its hours will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, and it will have about 30 workers.

It will be the seventh Evansville area store for St. Louis-based Schnucks. Store manager Ted Walker is relocating from Columbia, Illinois.

“We’re always excited to grow and expand our business by bringing Schnucks’ fresh quality products to new customers in a new market,” Todd Schnuck, Schnucks Chairman and CEO, said in news release. “Our mission at Schnucks is to Nourish People’s Lives, and Jasper customers will soon find out that we do this by not only making sure to address the food needs of our customers but also by nurturing the communities that we serve.”
