SOUTH BEND — Me'kel Mitchell knew many of the faces on the giant poster honoring city residents killed by gun violence over the past few years.
The item covered two tables positioned near the Century Center entrance so that it would be seen by Mitchell, who graduated from high school in 2016, and the other people attending Sunday's H.O.U.S.E Forum.
The event was organized by community activists, including Kintae Lark, as a call to action to address a particularly violent October.
Lark said that H.O.U.S.E stands for healing, organization, unity, solution and empowerment. He said that he wanted to give residents, and particularly people under the age of 30, a chance to express themselves.

"We need to be able to process, and we need to be able to have a venue to express ourselves as adults. And if we need it as adults," he said, "our babies really need it."
