LAFAYETTE, IN — Tree Lafayette will celebrate a major milestone at its upcoming Earth Day Celebration. The organization will plant its 5,000th tree during the event, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 22 at the McAllister Recreation Center.

The event is free and open to the public, according to a community announcement. Tree Lafayette, a nonprofit, has planted more than 4,900 trees in Lafayette since 1993.

The celebration will feature volunteers from Subaru of Indiana Automotive, the event sponsor, who will assist in planting 15 trees at the recreation center after the program.

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski will read the Earth Day proclamation during the program and will be presented a check for 5,000 trees.

The first Earth Day was observed in 1970. Earth Day encourages individuals to reduce their environmental impact and help restore the environment.
