If you melted down five full-sized pickup trucks, you might have enough metal for all the artists who will create sculptures during four weeks of workshops at the Solsberry Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum.
That's what Gerry Masse, owner of the museum, said it would take to allow the more than 20 artists who were selected to participate in the workshops enough cast iron for their sculptures.
The sculpture museum opened its grounds to the public for its 20th annual community aluminum pour, which was July 17, before some of the artists begin their work.
"This is the best month," Masse said of the museum. "We have artists from all over the country coming in this month."
No matter their age or where they're from — Maine, California, Wisconsin, Alabama, Arkansas or Solsberry — each one will work to create a sculpture. For the younger artists, the pieces stay at the museum. That's also true for some creations of older artists but not always.
