Community Health Network and a unit of Tennessee-based health services company Lifepoint Health announced Tuesday that they will build a 120-bed inpatient hospital in Westfield, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2026.
The hospital will built across the street from Community’s $335 million hospital campus that is under construction near 196th Street and U.S. 31. Community Health and Lifepoint Behavioral Health announced a partnership in February to build two facilities in central Indiana that will likely be called Community Behavioral Health Hospitals.
The partnership is expected to help address the region’s increasing need for behavioral health care services by expanding inpatient and outpatient care options, according to a news release from both health networks.
“We know behavioral health services are important to the residents of Westfield and Hamilton County,” Community Health Chief Operating Officer Jason Fahrlander said in written comments. “As the leading provider of behavioral health services in Indiana, Community is proud to expand access to care through innovative partnerships that address the growing needs of our communities.”
Construction on the Westfield hospital is expected to begin early next year, and it could open in 2027. Lifepoint Behavioral Health will manage day-to-day operations.
In announcing the plan for the hospital in Westfield, Community and Lifepoint Behavioral Health cited a finding from the Community Mental Health Needs Assessment for Marion County, published by the Center for Health Policy at Indiana University, that two-thirds of county residents who needed treatment for a serious mental illness did not receive it.
On its website, Lifepoint Health said its behavioral health units treat conditions including major depression, anxiety disorders, suicidal thoughts, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia.
Community has significant ties with Lifepoint. In September, Community and Lifepoint Behavioral Health said they were forming a joint venture—Community and Lifepoint Behavioral Health—to build and operate new inpatient behavioral health hospitals.
Community and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, also a unit of Lifepoint Health, operate Community Rehabilitation Hospital North in northeast Indianapolis, Community Rehabilitation Hospital South in Greenwood and Community Rehabilitation Hospital West in Brownsburg through a similar joint venture.
“Expanding access to patient-centered specialty care is the foundation of our work with Community Health Network,” Lifepoint Behavioral Health President Russ Bailey said in a written statement.
Lifepoint Behavioral Health operates 24 behavioral health hospitals, including Sycamore Springs in Lafayette.
