After the Monroe County Community School Corp. announced its plan to change school start and end times last month, several parents at the subsequent school board meeting and on social media had questions and concerns.

Some worried how the new schedule will affect their families’ lives outside of school and their students’ ability to focus in class. Some were confused about how the new bus tier system will work.

The corporation will inevitably have to work out some kinks with the new system, said Adam Terwilliger, MCCSC’s assistant director of business operations, but it will ideally alleviate the corporation’s bus driver shortage.

How will the new bus tier system work?

For many years, the MCCSC has used a two-tier busing system, meaning the district has two school schedules. High schools and middle schools run from 8 a.m. to 2:55 p.m., and elementary schools run from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
