SOUTH BEND ? An expansion at the McCormick & Co.'s South Bend plant will allow the added production and processing of Frank's RedHot hot sauce and French's Worcestershire sauce.

Construction at the plant, at 3425 Lathrop St., is underway, and Plant Manager Nick Hernandez said the building should be complete by the end of the year, with the new production line operational by June 2023.

McCormick’s South Bend facility currently produces several Stubb’s Bar-B-Q sauces and employs about 100 people. Company officials said more people will be hired as the new production line begins, but they did not provide any numbers.

Work is being done to expand the east side of the current plant to add 13,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Added will be a glass production line to allow the sauces to be packaged in bottles. The sauces to be produced will be in several sizes, from 5 to 15 ounces.

In addition to the new line, company officials said the plant also will be undergoing a utility upgrade and other efficiencies.
