A Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain announced Wednesday that it plans to spend nearly $1 billion to develop 100 stores across Indiana by 2036.
Sheetz Inc., which operates 830 stores across seven states, said it plans to open its first Indiana locations next year in the greater Indianapolis area. The company did not disclose specific sites for those stores, indicating it will share additional information in the coming months.
Sheetz stores offer restaurant-quality food, indoor and outdoor dining areas, mobile pick-up lanes and grocery selections. All locations are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and many of them have car-wash facilities.
The chain has a developed a fan base, often referred to as “Sheetz Freakz.”
The Altoona-based chain said it expects to create 3,000 jobs with its investment in Indiana. The company employs about 27,000 people in Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Each Sheetz location employs about 30 to 35 people.
The company opened its first store in Michigan in 2024 and expects to have more than 20 open in the state by the end of this year.
“Over the past several years, we have received a significant number of inquiries from Indiana residents who want to see Sheetz in their communities,” Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of the company, said in a news release. “This momentum has been reinforced by the enthusiastic response to our unique offerings in new Midwest markets. It is an exciting time for Sheetz, and we look forward to giving customers everything they need in one stop, creating quality jobs and being a positive force in the Indiana communities we serve.”
The investment from Sheetz comes as another Pennsylvania-based gas station and convenience store chain, Wawa, continues its expansion in central Indiana. That company said in 2023 that it planned to spend $420 million to open 60 stores across the state through 2033.
Wawa’s first local store opened in May 2025 on the west side of Noblesville and it now has more than a half-dozen stores in operation in the area.
Sheetz has operated in portions of eastern Ohio for 30 years and began expanding westward in the state after the pandemic, opening 25 stores including several in Dayton and Toledo..
The chain offers made-to-order beverages and food ranging from specialty drinks, smoothies, coffee and milkshakes to all-day breakfast, doughnuts, subs, sandwiches, chicken and pizza.
