Indiana lost more registered young voters than it retained from 2016 to this year.
A study published by Tufts University found that there were 54% fewer 18- and 19-year-old Hoosiers registered to vote in August of this year than there were in November 2016.
Now, voter advocacy groups across the state are making a last-minute push to get that age group registered to vote in time for the Nov. 3 election.
During a virtual news conference Tuesday, which was National Voter Registration Day, One More Voice campaign president and founder Bill Moreau called on school communities throughout the state to get more first-time voters registered before the Oct. 5 deadline.
“We have a message for the school superintendents and the principals and the teachers and the coaches and the parents: We’ve only got 13 days left, and if you don’t get this job done over the next 13 days, we’re going to continue to be stuck as a state,” Moreau said.
