LAFAYETTE – A day after Tippecanoe County health officials reported the first Greater Lafayette death from coronavirus, the caseload in the county climbed to 11, according to Indiana State Health Department figures released Saturday morning.

That was up three cases from the 11 the Tippecanoe County Health Department reported as of Friday evening.

The state figures included the death of a Tippecanoe County man at IU Health Arnett Hospital on Friday, as reported by the county health department.

Khala Hochstedler, Tippecanoe County Health Department administrator, said Saturday morning that one patient is hospitalized and the others are isolated at home.

Across Indiana, the state health department reported 251 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 1,232. The state also reported seven additional deaths, making the total 31.

The state map also showed that every county bordering Tippecanoe County had cases, except for Benton County.

Among Tippecanoe County’s neighbors: Montgomery County had four cases; Warren, one; Fountain, one; Clinton, one; Carroll, one; and White, one. To the north, Jasper County had five cases and Newton County had one case.

In Montgomery County, just south of Tippecanoe County, health officials reported that they’d been notified of a fifth case not listed in the state’s figures Saturday morning.
