MUNCIE. — Nearly every county in East Central Indiana has gone back up in its coronavirus rating this week, according to the state's coronavirus map, following a week of high positivity rates.

That could be an early indicator of growth in virus spread in the local community over previous weeks. Local health experts, in a press release have asked the public to use due diligence, especially with the upcoming flu season.

Gov. Eric Holcomb's executive order requiring face coverings in indoor public spaces is still in place through Oct. 17.

As of Oct. 6, the Delaware County Health Department reported 209 new cases of COVID-19 and five new deaths since the last county update on Sept. 29. That leaves Delaware County with 2,254 cases and 67 deaths since the pandemic began.

Nearly a third of all the county's cases are in people 20-29 years old.
