Thousands of U.S. Census Bureau workers are out knocking on doors in Indiana, doing their part to make sure everyone gets counted during the every-10-year tally of people living in America.

Statistics from the bureau indicate that 69.7% of Hoosier households have completed their census forms either on paper, online or over the phone. In Monroe County, the percent is 66.4%.

But there are no local numbers or estimates available on the total number of responses, which would include people counted by census workers going door to door with iPads to track down nonresponders and gather their data.

Indiana Census Bureau spokesman Tim Swarens said that as of Thursday, 97.5% of Indiana residents have been counted.

But since local numbers don’t include on-the-ground counts, local percentages are about 30% or more lower in Monroe and surrounding counties.
