LAFAYETTE — Twenty inmates inside the Tippecanoe County Jail tested positive for the coronavirus, Tippecanoe County Sheriff Bob Goldsmith said Thursday.

The inmates all are in isolation, and none of them have symptoms that require outside medical treatment, Goldsmith said. No one even has a fever as of Wednesday morning, he added.

Additionally, seven employees — a mix of jail officers, deputies, dispatchers and administrative assistants — tested positive. Contact tracing indicated they did not get the virus at work, Goldsmith said.

Earlier this month, a person who had been an inmate for a few hours tested positive after being released from jail, Goldsmith previously said.

After that former inmate tested positive, contact tracing found that the inmate's cellmate also was positive, the sheriff said earlier this month.
