MUNCIE — One of Ball State University's main philanthropic donors is helping the university once again by gifting a nearly $3 million amphitheater that will take center stage around development of the campus's eastern side.

The Ball State University Board of Trustees announced that Charles W. Brown was giving an additional $2.8 million gift to build the Brown Family Amphitheater on Friday.

Brown had given $250,000 earlier in the year to help design the space.

The board also approved a resolution to name the grand lawn amphitheater in honor of Brown, a 1971 graduate of Ball State and a longtime donor to the University.

“The beauty of our campus is one of the many reasons students choose Ball State University,” University President Geoffrey S. Mearns said in a press release. “The Brown Family Amphitheater will strengthen that appeal. It will also deepen our commitment to inspiring students by providing a variety of performances as well as a gathering space for outdoor activities, which will encourage innovation.”
