EVANSVILLE — The University of Southern Indiana hopes to boost its graduation and retention rates over the coming years as part of its new strategic plan.

USI trustees approved the plan at a meeting Thursday morning. Among its objectives are reaching a 40% four-year graduation rate and a 55% six-year graduation rate by 2025. Those rates currently stand at 36.7% and 51.5%, respectively.

The plan, titled "Accelerating Impact: USI’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025," is structured around four broad goals: improving student success, fostering impactful engagement, elevating visibility and reputation and strengthening financial viability.

Under each of those goals are measurable objectives the school will try to accomplish. Other notable objectives include increasing:

• Retention and graduation rates of at-risk and underrepresented students by 5%
• The number of transfer students and adult learners by 5%
• The number of "high-impact engagement activities" like internships and field experiences by 10%
• Fundraising by $350,000 annually through 2025

"'Accelerating Impact' is a roadmap that will help USI advance toward its vision: to be a recognized leader in higher education, boldly shaping the future and transforming the lives of our students through exceptional learning and intentional innovation," USI President Ronald Rochon said in a news release.

The administration incorporated feedback from more than 2,600 USI students, employees, alumni and others as it drafted the plan, according to the school.

Trustees also adopted updated vision and mission statements as part of the new strategic plan.
