Homebuilders in central Indiana saw a decline in applications for new homes in April, according to the latest statistics from the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
Builders filed 976 single-family building permits in the nine-county area during the month, a 6% drop from 1,043 filed in April 2025, BAGI said.
The decrease came after a year-over-year increase of 13% in March, a revised decrease of 6% in February and a 7% rise in January.
So far this year, 3,274 permits have been filed, an increase of 1% compared with the first four months of 2025.
Marion County saw a 5% year-over-year rise in April applications, from 183 to 193.
Hamilton County, typically a hotbed for new home construction, experienced a 14% drop in permit filings last month and trails last year’s pace by 4%.
