The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County plans to more than double its footprint this fall with the support of a new state learning recovery grant.
State legislators created Indiana's $150 million Student Learning Recovery Grant Program and Fund this year to facilitate community partnerships that tackle student learning loss sustained during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Boy & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County will receive $7.7 million from the fund to spend over two years in partnership with three local school systems; the South Bend Community School Corp, the School City of Mishawaka and Career and Success Academy.
The Club is channeling its grant funding into a new program, called STRIVE, which will offer math, literacy, social and emotional learning and college readiness support to students across the county after school for free.
The grant allows the Boys & Girls Clubs to expand its current reach during the pandemic of about 600 to 700 children to more than 1,700 in the fall.
