Molnupiravir, antibody infusions newest treatment for some against COVID-19

Despite nationwide worries about possible shortages of the drugs where they are highly sought, southern Indiana hospitals have enough for now, according to three south-central Indiana hospital officials.

Last November, the Food and Drug Administration gave emergency approval to two lab-created antibody drugs, one from Eli Lilly and the other from Regeneron. Former President Donald Trump received the intravenous treatment when he contracted the virus in October 2020.

Monoclonal antibodies are administered during a two-hour IV infusion, help prevent the coronavirus from invading cells once a person has been infected. 

Antibody-based treatment is an important weapon in the battle against the stubborn and sometimes deadly virus.
