EVANSVILLE -- The University of Southern Indiana expects to have a clearer view on whether Division I athletics are in the school's future by the end of the year.

And next up: The school's students, faculty and other employees will get their say.

USI president Ronald Rochon told the school's board of trustees Thursday that the goal is to conclude the Division I feasibility study by the end of 2021. The university's committee held its first meeting Oct. 8 and has been interacting with an outside consulting group.

The 25-member committee is co-chaired by USI Athletics Director Jon Mark Hall and political science and pre-law professor Nick LaRowe. Members have been assigned to smaller subcommittees to discuss strategies and other data.

There will also be an e-mail survey sent to members of the university community next week. Respondents to the questionnaire will have a chance to share their opinions on a possible move to Division I.

The next board of trustees meeting will take place on Jan. 13.
