MUNCIE, IN — U.S. Sen. Todd Young was in Muncie on Thursday, May 28, for a "fireside chat" with members of the Greater Muncie Chamber of Commerce.

Young appeared at the downtown Ivy Tech Fisher Building, responding to questions posed by Elizabeth Rowray, a chamber official who also serves as a state representative.

Young — elected in 2022 to a second six-year term representing Indiana in the U.S. Senate — said Americans could be on the verge "of having a world so fundamentally disrupted by artificial intelligence that it's going to leave us culturally, socially, economically and militarily disoriented and unable to adapt."

"Or, we're going to seize the day, and this will be a second American century," he said. "And I think we're well equipped for it to be the latter."

The Republican from Johnson County said he didn't believe there is a way for American "to lose this century unless we play our cards really poorly.
