EVANSVILLE — More than 60 truck driving positions are being eliminated due to the end of a contract with Evansville-based Shoe Carnival, according to a legal notice filed with the state of Indiana.
Averitt Express employed 61 hourly and two salaried workers who were based at the Shoe Carnival Distribution Center.

The nonunion positions will be cut by the end of February, according to the notice sent by Averitt Express to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Most of the drivers live outside Indiana. Averitt Express said it is working to offer the affected individuals positions elsewhere in the company.
Shoe Carnival, which is publicly traded, operates stores in 35 states and also sells online at shoecarnival.com. The Evansville company started in 1978.
