Indiana University continued to struggle with ongoing, systemwide website outages Friday, affecting sites for entities such as the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis.

“The IU web server is unable to deliver the page you requested,” a message in part read at cancer.iu.edu.

A university spokesperson referred questions to information already posted by UITS, which as of Friday also posted notices regarding access issues for secure connections like Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, and VPN, as well as video playback via Honorlock, an online exam proctoring service. “UITS is in the process of restoring and stabilizing service,” an online message read.

A tracker for website systems and services curated by University Information Technology Services, or UITS, includes a notice regarding difficulties accessing IU websites and web content management systems that has been active since June 9.

The Herald-Times reported on Thursday that the outages appeared to be related to security issues, according to a June 25 email obtained by the Bloomington newspaper.

The university, The Herald-Times reported, is in the process of switching web hosting services from Sitehost to SiteKube. The issues prompted UITS to shut down Sitehost and “fully rebuild the university’s web hosting platform,” The Herald-Times reported.

WFIU, a Bloomington-based NPR affiliate radio station, reported on June 20 that the outage had been going on for at least a week, and affected its website, as well as the website for WTIU, its sibling television station. Together, the stations make up Indiana Public Media, which is publishing its work on a temporary site until issues are resolved.
