ELKHART — Amazon has announced it will hire more than 1,000 full-time employees in advance of the launch of its new 800,000-square-foot fulfillment building in Elkhart. The new facility will support the first mile of Amazon’s order process and speed up customer deliveries, according to an official announcement on Friday.
The new warehouse is located on the north side of the Indiana Toll Road between C.R. 17 and C.R. 19.
“Amazon’s fulfillment network is made up of state-of-the-art technology and a variety of building types and sizes to support processing orders,” it was announced. “Employees at the new robotics facility will play integral roles in receiving, picking, packing and shipping customer orders such as books, toys and housewares, while supporting network logistics.”
The starting hourly wage is estimated to be more than $19. Additionally, Amazon offers a range of benefits that support employees and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children.
“From day one, employees receive comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance, along with a 401(k) with a 50% company match,” it was noted in the announcement. “The company provides up to 20 weeks of paid maternal and parental leave, complemented by innovative benefits like Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.”
Amazon also has committed $1.2 billion to upskill 300,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. Through its Career Choice program, the company funds full college tuition, high school diplomas, GED certifications and English as a Second Language proficiency programs for front-line employees after three months of employment. Amazon has further expanded its educational offerings with three new programs focused on data center maintenance and technology, IT, and user experience and research design.
The new facility adds to Amazon’s growing presence in Indiana, which includes more than 26,000 full- and part-time employees in 37 facilities across the state. Since 2010, the company has invested $25.5 billion in the Hoosier State through infrastructure development and employee compensation.

At our robotics fulfillment center, employees will work in a modern, technologydriven environment. Our team members play essent ial roles in suppor ting operations network — from receiving inventory and picking orders to packing and shipping. They’ll work alongside innovative robotics and automation systems that help make their jobs more safer, efficient and ergonomic. Once a candidate receives and accepts a job offer and successful ly completes their new hire documentation and pre-employment screening, employees will receive a confirmed start date.”
Woodson added that, in addition to the initial 1,000 jobs, more will become available as the facility ramps up to its full capacity, and will include other positions, as well.
“While many of our positions are in operations, we’ll have a wide range of roles available at the facility,” he said. “This includes management positions at various levels, IT, human resources, procurement, security and loss prevention, supply chain management and reliability and maintenance engineering teams, among other positions. The exact mix of positions will vary as we ramp up, but we’re committed to building a diverse workforce with opportunities at all levels.
