The Greenfield-Central school board voted unanimously on Monday night to lay off 14 G-C teachers. They voted after hearing remarks from Jeff Sincroft, a representative of the Greenfield Central Classroom Teachers Association.

Sincroft said many G-C teachers are concerned they’ve been labeled as the group unwilling to make a sacrifice. He then recounted concessions the district’s teachers have made recently and in the past: not pushing for a raise, eliminating professional development for most teachers and accepting higher insurance co-pays and deductibles.

In a separate motion, the G-C board voted to lay off another seven teachers who are G-C employees but who work through the Hancock-South Madison Joint Services cooperative. Joint Services director Michael Bennett recommended the layoff due to a budget shortfall and a decrease in the number of students in the cooperative identified as being eligible for special education.
