The Fort Wayne Community Schools board announced Thursday it is freezing administrator salaries this year and is asking the superintendent to propose freezing teacher salaries as it negotiates a contract with the union.

Board President Mark GiaQuinta said the decision will save the district $260,000. But the savings will make only a small dent in the $15 million district officials need to slash this year to offset a budget shortfall and the local portion of the governor's cuts to K-12 spending.
