At least 80 Fort Wayne Community Schools teachers will be laid off this year, based on a Journal Gazette analysis of the amount of money officials plan to cut from the budget and the average salary and benefits package for educators.

While not providing details, district Superintendent Wendy Robinson proposed cutting $6 million to teacher allocations Tuesday, the largest dent so far in the $15 million the district needs to cut. Officials will not say how many teachers that might represent, but with the right numbers and simple math, it’s possible to get an idea.
