Money problems are not confined to local schools, as education budget cuts kick in all around Indiana.

Ballot referendums to replace lost revenue are springing up, some scheduled as early as the May 4 primary, but the Indiana State Teachers Association has estimated from district reports that between 4,500 and 5,000 school jobs will be lost during the current cycle of cuts resulting primarily from a $298 million shortfall in state funding.

That’s between 15 and 17 positions for each of Indiana’s 292 school corporations.
