LAFAYETTE – The Lafayette Coca-Cola distribution center, located on 803 N. Sixth St., will close in April as part of a consolidating effort by the company.

Other Cola-Cola plants around Indiana, including one location in Indianapolis, are being closed to make way for a new plant in Whitestown. The new plant is about an hour’s drive from Lafayette and just north of Indianapolis.

Construction on the Whitestown plant began in June of 2020 and is expected to be completed this spring, said Brian Nick, vice president of communications, public affairs, communications and communities at Coca-Cola Consolidated.

According to a letter sent to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development dated Feb. 15, the company will begin a two-week period of layoffs beginning April 18, the last day of operations for the Lafayette plant.

“We anticipate that these plans, when finalized, will be permanent,” the letter reads.
