ANDERSON — The Anderson Redevelopment Commission has approved a spending plan for 2025 which includes several economic development projects.
Included in the plan is $5.7 million in bond payments dating back to 2013 and paid for through tax increment financing revenues.
The spending plan also includes $5,750,000 for the planned construction of a cardboard manufacturing facility for a company that is headquartered in Spain.
The plan includes up to $77.3 million in spending on economic development projects.
Last year, a secondary plat was approved for SAICA in the 6100 block of Park Road for a $120 million facility to manufacture and distribute corrugated cardboard.
The company has agreed to build sidewalks along Park Road within two years.
The Spanish company plans to build a 350,000-square-foot facility to manufacture and distribute corrugated cardboard. The plant will initially employ 56 people. Future employment is expected to reach 118 workers, according to city officials.
SAICA has 107 facilities worldwide and employs about 10,000 people. The company will pay from $39 to $41.50 an hour. Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, previously said $4.7 million will be spent to widen Park Road between 53rd and 67th streets, relocate power lines and cover a portion of the cost for a rail spur.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. will provide $300,000 for the rebuild of Park Road.
The plant is expected to be in operation by next fall.
The plan includes a previously approved $25 million for improvements to Athletic Park, and $19 million for upgrades to the city’s water system.
It also includes $250,000 for the development of a parking lot at 13th and Jackson streets, across from the City of Anderson Transit System terminal.
There is also $1.5 million planned to extend water lines under Interstate 69 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit for a planned $16 million development by Race Trac.
