KNOX COUNTY — As the new year begins, officials across Knox County are looking toward 2025 projects and plans.

Mayor Joe Yochum said his goals for Vincennes are to continue to improve the trolley system, as well as work with the chamber and new Community Coordinator to improve or have more events.

Yochum also said the city will be installing improved play equipment at Gregg Park and purchasing a minimum of 15 new police department vehicles, as well as vehicles for other departments.

“And as always, work on paving,” he said.

In Bicknell, Mayor Thomas Estabrook said the city has a few construction projects to be finished in 2025.

The city is looking toward finishing the South Main and East 4th Street construction projects “on time and under budget,” he said in an email.

The city will continue new home construction, where Estabrook said they plan to have five to 10 new homes built by the end of 2025.

Estabrook said they are also looking toward finishing the standpipe water project in Ragsdale.

He also hopes to clear and prepare the site of the new city hall and to begin construction on the project.

The proposed site is the former D&B gas station at 1st and Washington Streets.

According to Estabrook, the city has been in discussions with the owner for some time, and is working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management on how they will work with the city to address any environmental concerns before an offer is made.

Finally, Estabrook plans to continue trying to attract businesses to Bicknell’s downtown area.

“There are a number of vacant lots along Main Street where old store front buildings once stood that were part of the downtown business core for decades.

“The city is trying to figure out how to get businesses to locate there given that the location is not as highly traveled as State Road 67 and new construction costs are still considerably high,” he said.

In Monroe City, Clerk-Treasurer Nancee Scott shared they have plans to get more grants to better care for the town.

Wheatland also has a number of large construction projects to be finished in 2025. Town Board President Brett Dawson said the goal is to finish the new sewer plant project, as well as the water main project, where both projects have been in the works since 2020.

Dawson said in an email that the town will also begin and finish construction of a $1.2 million town hall, sited at “the old co-op.”

Busseron Trustee Ryan Irvine said his goal for 2025 is “to continue to assist the residents to the best of my ability and continue to maintain the strength of the fire department.”

Bruceville Clerk-Treasurer Ruger Spires shared the town plans to have more events in 2025, with one large event sometime this year.

Spires also said they will continue to maintain the roads systems.
