The long-awaited official opening of Marion Health East in Gas City will finally become a reality this month.

Marion Health announced in a press release Tuesday morning that an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Sept. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Marion Health East facility located at 911 Marion Health Drive in Gas City. The facility is anticipated to open for services Sept. 23 at 8 a.m.

The opening ends a long process that began in 2021. Construction on the new facility began in November of that year with an original opening date slated for 2022. As 2022 came to a close however, the building still hadn’t been completed, moving the estimated completion date to spring 2023.

The facility is a four-story, 100,000-square-foot building that sits on approximately 100 acres of land off the interstate. Marion Health plans to offer a variety of services for patients, including new acute-care and ambulatory services to provide orthopedic/spine services for surgery, rehabilitation and outpatient clinic, family practice medicine outpatient clinic, multi-specialty outpatient clinic, emergency services with helipad, radiology, laboratory, inpatient acute care and flexibility for future expansion.

The $80 million investment will provide around 100 jobs in the community.
