RICHMOND — The use of artificial intelligence is on the rise, so much so that Richmond Community Schools is jumping on it with the introduction of a new AI policy.
But not everyone is on board with the policy as it is currently written, particularly because of the vagueness of it.
Although it was advanced to a second reading with a 5-1 vote, board member John Weber voted against the policy.
"It's a policy that doesn't say anything or do anything," Weber said after the meeting.
The policy says the school board "recognizes the positive impact that artificial intelligence technology may have on the school corporation’s educational program and operations" and that the superintendent is authorized to support the use of AI technology when its use is consistent with the corporation's mission, goals and operational integrity.
