MUNCIE — Anyone traveling around Muncie might start to notice outdoor artwork appearing in new places.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts has embarked on an project to paint a series of outdoor murals throughout Muncie, according to a release. The murals are a collaboration between students and Cornerstone artists led by Leon Crosby, a member of the Cornerstone staff and a teaching artist.

The first mural has been painted outside the Common Market, 900 W. Eighth St. The market has been nationally recognized for helping the residents of South Central Muncie, where residents live in a food desert with little immediate access to groceries.

The theme of the Common Market mural is: “Be the Change You Want to See.” The Common Market supplied the paint and other materials.

The next mural is planned for the Rosebud Coffee House, 1805 S. Hoyt Ave., the release stated.
