The city of Terre Haute unveiled a new brand and logo Thursday during a public launch event in the City Hall courtyard.
“What we’re unveiling today is more than a logo or even a symbol. It shows where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re heading together,” said Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun. It reflects the city’s vision for the future.
He explained why a rebrand is needed.
“As our city continues to grow and change, we saw the need to update how we present ourselves, both to those who live here and those who visit or do business with us,” the mayor said. It will be included in city signage and on city vehicles and will tie into the city’s new website, which will launch in the third quarter.
The transition to the new brand will occur over time, for budget reasons, Sakbun said.
The city has guidelines so all departments, partners and organizations can use it “consistently and correctly.”
The new logo design includes:
_ The Vigo County Courthouse, which Sakbun described as “a strong symbol of our rich history and civic pride.” It symbolizes both the city and county.
_ The crossroads sign, representing historic U.S. highways 40 and 41, reaffirming Terre Haute’s status as the Crossroads of America.
_ A basketball player silhouette, “A nod to one of our city’s most beloved traditions,” the mayor said.
_ The city skyline, which celebrates its revitalization and forward momentum.
Primary colors include blues and gold.
The new brand also includes an updated tagline, “Meet Us at the Crossroads.”
The tagline “is an invitation. It says come visit. Come do business. Come build a life here,” Sakbun said.
The city, along with community partners the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, RJL Solutions, and the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau, were involved in creating the new logo. The county and other local organizations also had a role in the project, which has been a year in the making.
In addition, the community was able to provide input.
“Let’s continue to build a future we are proud of — unified and stronger than ever,” Sakbun said.
The initiative is funded through the city’s civic promotions line in the budget. The website re-design is funded through casino gaming revenue.
