Tortilla-making giant Mission Foods announced Monday that it plans to open a factory in Plainfield that’s expected to employ 544 workers by the end of 2026.
Texas-based Mission Foods—which also makes flat breads, tortilla chips and other baked products—said it will lease, build out and equip a 510,965-square-foot manufacturing plant at 1201 Allpoints Court in Plainfield.
The company said that production will begin in 2021 and that the factory will be fully operational by 2025. It will have the potential to produce more than 187 million pounds of baked goods annually.
Mission Foods, the top-producing tortilla-maker in the United States, has about 6,900 workers its 19 other plants in the United States.
In return for Mission Foods’ jobs commitment and investment, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide up to $4.75 million in tax credits. The credits are performance-based, meaning the company can’t claim them until workers are hired.
The town of Plainfield is providing additional incentives, as is Duke Energy.
