Indiana’s corn yields for the year will be down 19% compared with last year, thanks to early flooding followed by a long, dry summer.
It is expected that 162 bushels per acre, or 794 million total, will be produced this year. That is 27 fewer bushels per acre than in 2018. If realized, this will be the lowest corn production since 2012, according to a release from the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
Soybean production is expected to have a worse fate, with 25 percent fewer bushels produced. The production forecast is 48 bushels per acre, or a total of 258 million. That would also be the lowest yield since 2012.
