INDIANAPOLIS | The Indiana House voted 87-0 on Friday to establish a uniform system of travel alerts throughout the state.
Senate Bill 267 calls for three alert levels -- "advisory" meaning use caution or avoid certain areas; "watch" meaning only essential travel, such as to or from work, is recommended; and "warning" meaning travel may be restricted to emergency vehicles only.
The measure requires a mayor or emergency management agency director to declare a local emergency disaster before imposing a travel "warning."
State Rep. Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, was the House sponsor of the legislation, which now goes to the governor.
