INDIANAPOLIS | LaPorte County can partner in the push for regional bus service under legislation signed Wednesday by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

House Bill 1742 allows the LaPorte County Council or the city councils of Michigan City and LaPorte to negotiate their participation in the Northwest Indiana Regional Bus Authority. Those officials and the authority, which now covers Lake and Porter counties, would have to agree to terms, including annual membership fees. The law takes effect July 1.
