More than 50 community members attended the Monday morning Commissioners’ meeting and showed, by raising their hands, their opposition to an ordinance which would allow wind generators and solar farms in Carroll County. Two audience members did not join in the majority. It was later learned they are not residents of Carroll County.

Commissioner Bill Brown stated that the current wind ordinance, which was passed several years ago, “pretty well stopped windmills.”

He said when the revised proposed ordinance is presented to the commissioners and the public “it would have to be changed significantly” to receive his support.

All three commissioners, Brown, Loren Hylton and Steve Pearson, said they were not in favor of allowing wind energy development into the county. However, Hylton said he did not think there is any way commissioners can prevent the development.

Commissioners’ Attorney Ted Johnson advised that in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, a document approved several years ago and one that is intended to be consulted before changes are made to the current zoning ordinance, it is stated that no development should be allowed that would displace valuable farm ground.

Commissioners decided to hold another public input session about the matter Jan. 10 at the County Annex (on Cottage St. in Delphi) at 5:30 p.m.
