Several Carroll County residents attended the regular meeting of County Commissioners with one goal in mind: obstructing wind and solar power from becoming part of the landscape in the County. With the current moratorium expiring in July, they were seeking action by Commissioners to assure that wind and solar companies couldn’t take advantage of a lapse in the moratorium to begin installing their equipment in Carroll County.
County Attorney Ted Johnson assured citizens present that the date would not pass without an extension. Johnson explained the reason writing an ordinance takes a long time to write is due to court action by energy companies, which is requiring that any possible issues be addressed in the ordinance so that it can be enforced.
With the discussion concerning the amount of time it could take to write the final ordinance restricting wind and solar power in Carroll County, citizens suggested that instead of extending the moratorium another six months, it would be preferable to extend it for a year to allow the ordinance writer to address any legal issues which come up over that period.
Commissioners expressed their support for the citizens and assured that they would take action at their July 1st meeting to extend the moratorium prior to the expiration of the current moratorium on July 6th.
