Caterpillar letting 2,500 go in U.S., but no word on fate of Lafayette workers

A good news-bad news scenario that will affect its Lafayette operations was announced Monday by Caterpillar Inc.

To align production levels with demand and resource requirements, the Peoria, Ill.-based heavy equipment manufacturer plans to recall approximately 550 employees who have been laid off at Caterpillar facilities throughout the United States.
