Clinton Prairie School Corp., with a 999-student enrollment, is cautiously eyeing state legislation aimed at merging small school districts into larger ones.
But the district is not waiting on a mandate to consider what it might mean. Clinton Prairie is taking part in a collaboration and consolidation study with neighboring Clinton Central School Corp. to be released this summer.
Clinton Central is also near the 1,000 student cut-off that the governor says is too small for efficient operation.
"We are looking at ways we can improve student success," Clinton Prairie Superintendent Charles Fink said. "We may collaborate or cooperate or consolidate. We're early on in this process. Basically, when we finish this process, we will take it to our board, and they will make a decision."
Fink said he's concerned, however, about what Senate Bill 521 might mean.
