Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Greater Lafayette’s largest private employer, plans to bring back some of its 6,000 employees Monday to prepare the plant on Indiana 38 to start production again on May 18, Craig Koven, an SIA spokesman, said Friday.
Production has been down at SIA since March 23, when the automaker cited market demands due to coronavirus. SIA's Lafayette plant makes four Subaru models.
Koven said resumed operations won’t necessarily equate to full production. But he said the company planned to have all of its production associates to return on that day.
“There are a number of factors, including supply chain challenges, which will play a role in determining production levels upon return,” Koven said.
The news came as Honda announced it would resume production at its U.S. and Canada plants, including one in Greensburg, south of Indianapolis.
