SOUTH BEND — Eight U.S. mayors have endorsed Pete Buttigieg for chair of the Democratic National Committee, citing his record as mayor of South Bend, his “outside-the-Beltway” perspective and his ability to unite the party and communicate to both “red” and “blue” communities.
The list comprises: Mitch Landrieu (New Orleans); Steven Adler (Austin, Tex.); Javier Gonzeles (Sante Fe, N.M.); John Fetterman (Braddock, Penn.); Settie Warren (Newton, Mass.); Nan Whaley (Dayton, Ohio); Karen Freeman-Wilson (Gary, Ind.); and Josh Maxwell (Downington, Penn.).
Buttigieg announced his candidacy in January. Members will vote on a new party leader Saturday in Atlanta.
If elected, Buttigieg will resign as mayor of South Bend, he has said.
