RICHMOND — Next summer, the roads won't be the only things having a little work done in downtown Richmond.

A handful of businesses will get a new look as well, thanks to the city's facade project through the Stellar Communities program.

Richmond officials learned from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs last week they had been awarded the $750,000 grant for the project

The grant requires a local match of $552,230. Most of that money ($312,230) will come from the building owners in the form of preliminary architectural services with the rest ($240,000) coming from the Richmond Redevelopment Commission.

Mayor Dave Snow and members of his team visited the businesses Thursday to deliver the good news.

"I'm glad to get to this point. We've held off some other renovations just waiting on these to get done first," said Peter Zaleski, co-owner of Phillips Drugs.

Along with the pharmacy, others downtown to get facade improvements will be the Secret Ingredient, Tin Lizzie Cafe, BSN Sports and Solomon Fox buildings.
