Jay County's jobless rate continues to be one of the bright spots in East Central Indiana.
Unemployment rates in the region dipped in September but still remain among the highest in the state.
Jay County saw its rate fall half a percent to 6 percent with 699 people unemployed, down from 773 in August. Jay County ranked 38th highest in the state, but was second lowest within the seven county region.
Adams County continues to struggle in the wake of layoffs in the recreational vehicle industry. Its 9 percent jobless rate was third-highest in the state.
County unemployment rates for East Central Indiana fell about three-quarters of a percent on average throughout the area, however six of seven counties are still in the top half of the state's 92 counties for the highest unemployed rates.
The average unemployment rate for the area, including Jay, Randolph, Blackford, Adams, Wells, Delaware and Grant counties was 6.9 percent. The Indiana average is 5.8 percent and the U.S. average is 6 percent.
Wells County posted the lowest rate in the region, 5.6 percent, 50th highest in the state.
The biggest decrease came in Blackford County, which dropped 1.4 percent to an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent, although Blackford is still seventh highest in the state.
